Women's rights in colonial new york
In colonial New York, women had very few rights. Women could not do many things. One thing women were not allowed to do was vote. Women were not allowed to vote because the men thought that women should not have a say in legal decisions. Women were often thought of as more weak-minded and less dominant than men. Women were not allowed to serve on juries, write wills, initiate legal action, or hold any form of public office without their husband's consent for the same reasons. Women were considered equal to minors and those "not of sound mind" in terms of obtaining property. Women in colonial New York had few rights.
Men dominated society and women were subservient to the men in her family such as her father, husband, and brothers. - www.landofthebrave.info/colonial-women.htm
